Vodafone NL, Vodafone DE and Bol availability.

For some reason Google have pushed MyOmniapro.com way into a hidden corner in a search for ‘Omnia Pro’ so visibility of my information is quite restricted and there aren’t many of you reading this blog yet.  It’s strange considering that this blog contains more Omnia Pro information than most but I’m not too worried about numbers. As long as a few people get some value from this info it’s ok. At the very least it’s making me think about my choice every time I write something about it!

One of the readers here is someone by the name of Carl and he needs a personal ‘thanks’ for me because he’s been doing a lot of pricing and availability tracking. Who needs loads of readers when there’s someone like Carl about!

Here’s what he has found.

Vodafone

The Dutch and German Vodafone operations will be carrying the Omnia Pro.  In Holland, availability is stated as mid-August. [Link] In Germany, the Omnia Pro is showing up in the ‘coming soon’  section [Link] but there’s no date.

Bol.com

Bol.com are one of the first suppliers to show a date that’s more specific than ’soon’ or ‘August.’ In their Dutch shop they’ve listed the Omnia Pro as being available for 439 Euros (good price) in 5-10 work days. That’s 1-2 weeks which brings us into the early weeks of August. Maybe Holland is going to be one of the first countries to get it. If so, I might have to take a little drive up to Holland and check it out! Anyone in Holland ordered the Omnia Pro yet?

    This is great news! Thanks for the update. BTW I check this site every day and I’m telling all of my friends.

    @Tom
    Hey. Thanks Tom. I appreciate the feedback. Did you order an Omnia Pro or are you waiting for hands-on before you take the plunge?

    I just received notification from play.com that it’s available for pre-order. Unfortunately it says it’s “Due for release on 30/09/2009″ which is bit longer than I was hoping to wait.

    I’m on the waiting list for it. I think I may be the only one here in the States who is excited about this phone.

    Tom, how do you plan to use this phone in the states. I am very interested as well. But so far it seems that no carrier in the states will offer it.

    Using it in the US is a simple matter of putting your SIM card into it. The only problem you’ll run into is that it only has 900/2100 3G. For 2G/EDGE useage it should work on any GSM network.

    So this phone would work with T-Mobile then? Also from what I understands 900 or 2100 aren’t even used in the US. Is that not true?

    2100 UMTS is used in some urban areas, but most of the US uses either 850 or 1700/1900, which by international standards are “oddball” frequencies. If you live in one of the major cities it might be worth calling up your local carriers and asking them what 3G frequencies they use, but if your out in the ‘burbs then it’s probably not worth the effort.

    If you’re on T-mobile US, you’d probably have better luck with the HTC Touch Pro 2, which is getting released by T-mobile right about now and won’t run you into any conflicts with 3G reception.

    Good point gentlemen. Pocketnow.com did a review yesterday of the Omnia II and found that it picked up AT&T 3G on HSDPA 1900 no problem. I’m assuming the Omnia Pro will have similar specs and will also have this band. I will definitely make sure. Worst case scenario it will use only EDGE which is sometimes faster than 3G (believe it or not) depending on where you live. It’s very frustrating that the U.S. doesnt get the best phones.

    The B7610 seems to have a different receiver chip from the i8000 and i8910 as it lacks 1900 3G and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. I don’t know why Samsung would have done such a thing, though.
