To say I’m pissed off with this is an understatement…
Just 24hrs after getting the Omnia Pro I swiped the screen with my nail (as I’ve been doing for the last 3 years testing resistive touchscreen UMPCs and MIDs) and this happened. I even felt the resistance as I scraped what must have been a speck of sand/dirt across the screen. It must have stuck to my nail as I took the second swipe. Argh!
As much as I hate screen protectors it looks like there’s no choice on the Omnia Pro.

nice one
recently similar appeared on my laptop’s screen, hell if I know where from :F
seems either you scratched it hard or the plastic gets shitty.. wonder why didn’t you apply protective screen immediately after buying
tell you though there’s some chemistry to help..
some people say bout “brasso” some bout iShit polishing kits they seem to work, also applying protective screen sometimes masks scratches

I will buy the Omnia Pro, do you recommend using a screen protector? It’s the Touchscreen fragile?
#3 by chippy on September 17th, 2009
Hi Cross.
I have to recommend a screen protector based on this experience. I was expecting a harder touch layer similar to the ones you would find on touch PCs/umpcs/mids but unfortunately it looks like Samsung has used a soft plastic on the touch layer.

This is sad, chippy…!In the first 2 days and you have a scratch in your screen…
Something not very relevant to screens, but what about Mobile Tracker anti-theft feature? It seems promising!! I am waiting for a short review!
#5 by chippy on September 17th, 2009
Hi John. Yeah, mobile tracking is something I was looking at last night. A suprise feature for me that I will investigate soon.

The most surprising that you probably don’t know is that IT SURVISES HARD RESET!!! I am not 100% sure if you can also locate your phone via GPS, but judging from the other new devices of Samsung (Jet,Ultra s8300 etc) you can. And you can do it by using another Samsung device of your friend or sending the codes by SMS. Here is the link I found interesting:
http://www.samsungcdma.in/t-mobile-tracker.aspx
By the way, your forum is BEST!! And as the PRO will be widely available, it would be a nice place to meet for users!

Thanks John. For the info and compliments!

OK I see the architechture now. It responds to specific SMS messages. But what if someone pulls the SIM card out?
#9 by John on September 18th, 2009
If someone will find your phone, he will 99% put a SIM card. Ok, he can use it in flight mode, but just as that. From the time he will put a SIM card and you have MT enabled, you will be informed by an SMS that the card has changed. Then (as you know his number from the SMS) you can choose what to do (remote wipe, find location, etc…). If you want to try it (and especially the Hard-reset proofness) make a backup with SPB Backup firtsly [contact me via email if you want more help] and then try it. But be carefull: you must never forget your password!!
We are waiting for an extended review of this feature Chippy!
I was wondering if it works with Touchwiz disabled (I prefer Mobile Shell 3!). Is it a different program or it works on top of Touchwiz??
#10 by chippy on September 18th, 2009
Thanks John. Instant SMS sent when new SIM card inserted. I’ll test it out.
P.S. Sorry about terrible 4th-level reply formatting here!

It’s better not answer to me but post your answer as a different comment as the forum will end up showing ugly!

Remote tracker on OMnia Pro is the basic version. (Tested OK) not advanced with remote kill and GPS features. Shame. Hope they fix that in an upgrade.
#13 by stn on September 18th, 2009
mobile tracker is FW dependent, so after setting should work no matter what shell do you use, yet probably if not a full reset then for sure firmware change (reflashing) will remove the settings, unless they’ve changed that

Hi Chippy, could you please tell me the firmware version of your B7610? (just press #*1234# on the phone)
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
T.

Chippy we are waiting for the review!!
#16 by John on September 26th, 2009
Chippy, I forgot to ask you if the retail box had a screen protector or we have to buy it seperately?
#17 by Prospero on September 27th, 2009
There is no screen protector included, at least not here in The Netherlands.. It seems some of my friends who have the same phone are experiencing the same problems. Samsung really should’ve included this imho.
#18 by Prospero on September 27th, 2009
Hey,
I’m having the same problem. The screen is extremely fragile.. I had a grain of sand on my finger (I think) and the same happened to me. I ordered Displex and hopefully that’ll smoothen the scratches out a bit. I know I’m getting a screen protector pronto
Again, I feel your pain…
#19 by chippy on October 1st, 2009
Sorry to hear that you’re having the same problem. Maybe (as has been the case before) NL is being used as a testing ground and that changes will be made to software and hardware before release in other areas.

Do you know any shop that delivers screen protectors to Europe? I have found these ones but http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-3M-CLEAR-FULL-BODY-PROTECTOR-FOR-SAMSUNG-OMNIA-PRO_W0QQitemZ290328303610QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item4398ea57fa&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 does not ship it apart from USA…

I was just about to order an Omnia Pro, but now I’m let’s say a bit concerned.
Just looked for a suitable protector and found the “Vikuiti DQC-160″ on Amazon.
If i choose the Omnia Pro, I’ll give it a try.

They do send worldwide. Go to http://www.clearfreak.com/Samsung_Omnia_Pro_p/sam-om7610.htm as a direct link to this screen protector. It`s only 14.99 dollars (free postage).

Hi, i buy 6 screen protector and does not work! I don feet on screen! I tink that i will not use a screen protector!!
#24 by Cross on October 6th, 2009
I sent an email to samsung, asking about screen, it makes no sense to be fragile, also asked if the warranty covers the screen!
This makes no sense, a top terminal having a fragile screen !

Good move, would like to know Samsung’s answer. Please share with us!

Hi all,
pretty much exactly the same scratches appeared on my Omnia Pro, within two days of ownage. I’m quite disappointed by that, same time wondering if there’s any way to remove/polish the scratches on the touch screen?
Forgetting the scratch sensitive screen, and the battery that doesn’t last much longer then one day, I find this smartphone really stunning on looks and useability
