Rather than do one huge video I’ve decided to split it up into manageable pieces. Today I’m posting the first of the videos which gives you an overview of the hardware along with some of my thoughts from the first weeks usage. I hope it gives you some answers and thoughts. If it brings up new questions, please add them to the comments and I’ll try and address them either here or in a separate ‘user questions’ post.
For those looking for my first impressions of the device, I’ve started to add them into a new post in the forum.

You don’t sound to be too impressed with it in the video.

The two major issues of camera and screen ruggedness are real downers for me but i’m still quite positive about the device in general. I will try and remain objective in my review of it.

Hi! About the finger in the lens, it’s strange. My current phone (E-ten X500+) has more or less the same size and the lens are more or less in the same position, but I rarely touch the lens because my index finger stays past the top border of the phone. Actually, my finger helps me to grip the phone by the top too.
But… anyway, it’s a different phone and a different hand.

Others already asked…how is the battery so far?
#10 by chippy on October 1st, 2009
So, so difficult to tell. It passes the ‘all-day’ basic Wifi-on test but I need to get down to some hard battery life testing before I can give a useful answer, sorry.

Update on the battery. I was able to kill it in about 12 hours yesterday. Will keep monitoring the situation. Expect a post about battery life when I finally get some solid results.

didn’t u know beforehand that the camera didn’t have a cover?? if you really need a better camera why didn’t u go after the samsung omnia HD instead? it runs symbian just like your nokia.
wait a minute. u want a hardware keyboard i think. i dont think there are any phones out right now that have keyboards and have cameras as its focus. its either one or the other.
or in other words. there isn’t a perfect phone out there.

I guess some of the blame there has to be on me for choosing a camera without a lens cover, it’s true, but it’s worth highlighting it as a major issue so that others don’t make the silly mistake and that designers don’t get away with this less-than-perfect solution.

One question Chippy!
Do you have tested the GPS? Witch software do you used?
#19 by chippy on October 2nd, 2009
It’s working fine under Google Maps.

Great review, when can we expect the next instalment? One question, is the B7610 essentially the same as the omnia II but with less internal storage and a slide out keyboard?
#21 by chippy on October 2nd, 2009
I’m doing a web browser demo video today. Might have time to do the UI video too.
As far as OMnia II goes, I didn’t pay much attention to it because it doesnt have the keyboard that I wanted but yes, it’s much the same internally. Same UI too.

Hi, I’m planig to buy one in expansys uk (in live in Hong kong). Do you know whether it be a new case model for UK?
#24 by Steve 'Chippy' Paine on October 6th, 2009
There is a video on YouTube showing a slightly modified B7610. I would wait for the release in the UK which should be this week.
#25 by Doug on October 6th, 2009
Yes, I watched it. I just not sure the one of expansys.com of UK is the new version.
