Peshir’s first impressions of the Omnia Pro
Posted by chippy in Owner Opinions on September 16th, 2009
If you’re thinking about buying the Omnia Pro you need to be thinking about reading a lot of different peoples opinions on it too so as reviews and hands-on thoughts come up in these early days i’ll try and relay them to you here.
The first is from Peshir who got his Omnia Pro on Monday. He has a great 14-point post which covers his thoughts on how the device looks, the TouchWiz UI, the switchable work/life user interfaces, the sensors and a nice feature that I highlighted previously, DNLS/uPnP support. I’m personally having trouble working out which formats it can stream from and too my Xbox, W7 devices and Windows Media Center box (it certainly can’t play and TV recordings which is very annoying) but there’s some potential for listening to the music collection that resides on my server.
Check out what he has to say on his blog post.
Update: I just got the ‘connected home’ DNLS/uPnP feature to stream a 720×400 4mb/s Divx from my server. A 1.4 mbps WMV at VGA resolution. I wonder why my WMV TV recordings don’t play. PAL Mpeg-2 taken from Sat/Cable doesn’t work either.

Working through a big list of tests I want to do on the Omnia Pro (and getting sidetracked by new features along the way!) I have just completed the *#0*# test as advised by ‘stn’ who commented on one of the articles last week.
Stn, yes, it works!
*#0*# is a code that brings up a matrix of tests on the Omnia Pro as it does on other Samsung device apparently. Within that test matrix are two interesting features. One of which has got me excited and looking forward to seeing someone develop a nice augmented reality app. Yes, the Omnia Pro has a compass.
Answering the Quad-band / HSDPA question.

‘Mad’ asked (in comments) about the cellular radio setup on the OP. Here’s what I know so far about the GSM and UMTS setup.
GSM.
The GSM setup is quad band. That’s 900/1800 OR 850/1900 bands. As far as I know, that means it would work on AT&T in the US.
More storage than expected on the Omnia Pro.

Here’s what it say on the phone folks. A few surprises. At least for me!
Program RAM. As expected. 256MB.
First pics from the Omnia Pro Camera
It’s a dreary old day here in Bonn so these pictures are looking a little flat and boring but you do get an idea of the quality of the sensor, lens and auto-focus.
Omnia Pro Photo Set
After converting the B7610 to English this morning, the first thing I did was to set up a photo shoot. You’ll find 68 photos in my gallery but I’ve included some with notes, below. Can you spot anything you weren’t expecting?
Omnia Qwerty / B7610 from Holland – Fully English-compatible.

I have some unboxing photos ready for you in the next post but first I wanted to report that I’ve successfully changed the language from Dutch to English. There’s also an English manual included so if you really can’t wait for the Omnia Pro in your country and you’re happy with QWERTY and English language, buy one from Holland!
Update: Other languages available through TouchWiz. (They take about 10 minutes to install)
English, French, Italian, German, Russian, Norwegian, Dutch, Czech, Greek, Spanish, Portugese, Finnish, Danish, Polish, Swedish. Lots of options there, just don’t let your mate get hold of your Omnia Pro and switch it to Greek
