WM6.5 B7610 is now available in UK.

Omnia Pro B7610 (12) I just received notification that the Windows Phone version of the Omnia Pro / B7610 is in stock at Clove.co.uk indicating that the 6.5 version really is ready and shipping.

You’re looking at just under 367 pounds inclusive of local sales tax which makes it quite competitive.

Apparently Clove have stock now so head on over (unless you’re waiting for the Motorola Milestone of course!)

GSM Arena Reviews WM6.5 Omnia Pro.

gsmarena_002GSM Arena have just published a full review of the B7610 praising the TouchWiz UI, Samsung software, keyboard and commenting on differences between it and the HTC Touch Pro2, Xperia X2 and N97. They review a version that they upgraded to Windows Phone OS but it’s not quite clear how they got theirs upgraded. Was it an official Samsung upgrade (that we haven’t seen yet) or a cooked ROM?

B7610 with WM6.5 Appears in France.

If I’ve got my translations correct, this article in French is reviewing the B7610…running Windows Phone OS.

Home-WM6.5

While the article doesn’t say if the WM6.5 version is available in the shops yet, it does indicate that the WM6.5 build is happening.

As SamsunMobile.nl is still advertising the free upgrade to 6.5 for the middle of November, we guess it’s happening very very soon. Hopefully it will open the gates for availability in other countries too.

Check out the article (translation) for some memory read/write tests and a battery life test.

Samsung Omnia Pro (B7610) and Nokia N82 Camera Comparison

I spent a lot of time with my N82 and Omnia Pro B7610 over the last 24 hours in order to fully test out and compare the camera. I’m a huge fan of the N82’s camera so I wanted to see how close the B7610 gets to what is widely accepted as one of the best smartphone cameras available. I was somewhat surprised at the results.

My photography skills aren’t fantastic and the subjects I’ve chosen are rather boring but hopefully this will post give you enough information for you to make your own judgments.

B7610 Drops Below 400 Euro

…making it one of the best value high-end smartphones on the European market right now. 5mp, HSDPA, keyboard, AMOLED WVGA screen and an 800Mhz CPU for under 400 Euro is great value.

The HTC Touch Pro 2 is hovering around the 500 Euro mark.

The Xperia X2 is showing for 509 Euro in Germany right now.

The B7610 is currently available for 398 Euros.

[Prices at Geizhals.at]

Surprisingly it’s Amazon.de that are showing the lowest price but this could be a pre-order promotion as the device is still not available through them. The WM6.5 version is expected in Holland in the next few weeks so we’re hopeful that the WM6.5 version hits Germany, UK and other European countries at the same time.

WVGA Smartphones – Your choice!

The choice in the high-end smartphone market is booming so if you’re still waiting for the Samsung Omnia Pro to arrive in your local online store you’ve got some thinking to do. Over at UMPCPortal I’ve published an article which looks at WVGA phones in both slider and slate format. I’ve also added a bunch of new devices to the database so take a look and see if there’s anything there that takes your fancy.

For those that are sick of waiting for the Omnia Pro I’d advise taking a look at the HTC Touch Pro 2 or, in the next couple of weeks, the Motorola Droid/Milestone (watch for poor reported camera quality) the Nokia  N900 (at a price premium and without a big range of 3rd party software) and hopefully before the end of November, the Xperia X2.

I’m still waiting for Windows 6.5 before I do a full review of the Omnia Pro but at this stage, the Omnia Pro has proved its value. With the lowest prices here in Germany now at under 400 Euro, it’s looking like this will be a great value-for-money, high-end WM6.5 smartphone.

Omnia Pro B7610 is available in US….at a price.

b7610-usWith the HTC Touch Pro2 (Tilt 2) available at $599 in the US, I don’t see too many people going for the Omnia Pro at $745 but if you think it’s the one for you and the price isn’t an issue, you can actually buy the B7610 in the U.S. now.

Actually, you can buy the English version of the device from many countries around the world too as Expansys are distributing it to almost all their countries now. [U.S. Link]

As a reminder, the Omnia Pro comes with the 800Mhz ARM11 CPU. The Touch Pro2 comes with a 528Mhz ARM11 CPU and given some of the Omnia Pro’s media capabilities (uPnP/dnla/DivX/AMOLED) it would be a better choice for those interested in some media playing action. Don’t forget to buy a big microSD card though as the Omnia Pro is specified as having only 1GB of storage. (Mine came with 2.5GB though)

As far as official release info goes, we’ve heard nothing yet and can only assume that Samsung marketing groups around the world have decided to wait for the Windows Phone version.
