WM6.5 Upgrade Registration for Omnia Qwerty (NL-only) now open.
Yesterday I reported that the registration page for the free Windows Phone upgrade for the Netherlands version of the Omnia Pro (Omnia Qwerty) was down. Today, it’s up!
I’ve registered (I bought my OP in Holland) and I’m looking forward to the free upgrade. Maybe it will fix some of my top issues. Please Samsung; finish the work on the Email client!
For those who bought their phones in Holland, you can register here.
Top Good/Bad things about the Omnia Pro B7610/Qwerty
While many of you (outside some small early markets in Europe) wait for the Omnia Pro B7610 to appear, here are a few things for you to think about.
I’m bullish on the Omnia Pro this week and it’s because I’m back in ‘work’ mode. Although the Omnia Pro has ‘work’ and ‘life’ user interfaces, it cant fix the fact that there’s no lens cover on the device. That annoys me soooooooooooo much! Anyway, feel free to ask questions below.
Windows Phone Upgrade Not Quite There Yet.
While others wait for any sort of local availability (becoming a story in itself. It’s nearly 5 months since Amazon.de had the device up for pre order and there is still no sign of a date) I’m waiting for a Windows 6.5/Phone upgrade availability.
Samsung Netherlands have a promo page up now….
Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 vs Nokia N900. (With Camera Comparison)
Posted by chippy in Competitors on October 21st, 2009
With almost exactly the same dimensions, weight and features, many of you will be looking at the N900 as a possible alternative to the B7610. In this article I go through the advantages of each device and take a closer look at the photo capabilities.
I have been using the N900 for just under two weeks now and have been very very impressed with the quality of the speed, UI, web experience and integrated support for Skype and instant message networks but there are some key issues with the N900 that need to be considered.
Heading to the Maemo Summit
The Maemo Summit starts in Amsterdam on Thursday and 400 people are going to get together to learn about the next-generation mobile operating system from Nokia. First in line to get the OS is the N900 that many of you will know about. It is almost exactly the same size as the Omnia Pro but more powerful and much more focused on the real web experience. (Nice video demo here)
I’ll be back on Monday but you can follow me over at UMPCPortal where my reporting starts tomorrow evening at a press-only event. I’m hoping for my first hands-on with the N900. The Omnia Pro will be close-by for comparisons
Omnia Pro B7610 to Hit UK with WM6.5 Tomorrow? (Updated)
Posted by chippy in Availability on October 7th, 2009
Reports are coming in from various places that the B7610 will be available in the UK, with Windows Mobile 6.5, very soon. At least one online retailer has listed the device as ‘in stock’ (NOT! Now listed as ‘Due November’) and one reader on the blog is commenting that Thursday could be the big day.
Pocketnow reports the B7610 with WM6.5 being ‘just around the bend’ although PocketLint is reporting a 30 November date for the B7610 on the 02 network in the UK. We’ll just have to wait 24 hours to see!
Thanks to everyone that commented in the previous article. News about Portugal and Italy there too.
Omnia Pro B7610 reaches German customers.
Posted by chippy in Availability on October 6th, 2009
It feels like a very slow process but we can now add Germany to the list of countries that has the Omnia Pro in stock. It appears that Vodafone might have a little exclusive on the B7610 at the moment (no online stores appear to have it in stock) but it is confirmed that Vodafone Germany have been shipping the device. (see first review on Amazon.de) There’s still only 1GB internal memory shown in the specifications (mine shows 2GB) and the price is a little high – 479 Euros. There’s one online retailer in Germany advertising a 399 Euro price which seems like an excellent deal for this phone.
So to summarize; we have Germany, Holland, Italy and Czech Republic as ‘in stock’ countries. In the UK, it appears that the availability is slipping.
If you know of availability in your area, take a second to let us know details in the comments below. Thanks.
